CMIC Launches First EHR Malpractice Premium Credit in Connecticut
GLASTONBURY, CT – April 29, 2009 – CMIC, a leading doctor-owned medical malpractice insurer serving Connecticut and Massachusetts, today announced the launch of the
first malpractice premium credit available to Connecticut physicians for the use
of Electronic Health Records (EHR). Eligible physicians can receive a 5% reduction in their premiums.
The new EHR credit will be available to physicians using an EHR
program certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology
(CCHIT). CCHIT is a private, nonprofit organization that has been recognized by
the federal government as an official certification body for health information
technology. In order to be eligible for the program, the practice must meet underwriting and claims approval and be willing to participate in CMIC approved risk management programs. The EHR must also have been fully operational for at least one year.
“A fully implemented EHR system reduces medical errors and increases
efficiency and timeliness of care,” said Denise Funk, CEO of CMIC. “It is appropriate that CMIC reward Connecticut practices that have successfully embraced and applied
medical records technology certified by a nationally recognized organization.”
Practices interested in receiving more information about this new
EHR credit should call CMIC at (860) 633-7788. More information on CCHIT and CCHIT
